It happens time and time again.
Companies spend a significant amount of revenue developing a web site but start conserving funds once the site is complete.
That's just the beginning of the process.
Web site marketing is an intense effort that must be implement consistently and strategically to bring results. That's why significant
funds should be allocated to the marketing process.
Companies are sometimes surprised to learn that only about 25% of their overall web project budget should be allocated to
development, design, hosting and "hard cost" technologies, with the balance directed to web marketing and promotion. Success
dictates nothing less.
It's also important to remember what your website goals are. Most companies have sites to sell their products or services. But
sometimes websites are developed to promote a positive image, improve customer service, notify customers of new products and
improvements and a variety of relationship building reasons.
The site's marketing effectiveness should not be diminished by an appetite for the latest javascripts, animated gifs, scrolling text
and other imbellishments. Many websites are developed with a developer's need to demonstrate the "latest and greatest" web
building techniques. Marketing input should always be significant, keeping in mind that many web surfers still use older browsers
and slower modems. It's safer to develop for the most common marketing denominator, rather than to lose hard-earned web
traffic hits.
Ease of navigation is an important element of web marketing success.
It is important to remember that not all of your visitors will arrive at the main page. Options should be provided to make it easier
to navigate the site.
Site visitors should be free to visit any page they want, with the abundant availability of text-based links to every page. This type
of linkage is important because text-based links are indexed better by search engines and also add to the sites overall link
popularity, an important indexing considering with some of the major search engines.
If you have a large website with lots of pages, a site map or index page is recommended.
Always maintain a consistent appearance to the site. Site visitors should recognize the site from any page that might be visited.
After all, your successful marketing effort should bring visitors from any number of the pages that are successfully marketed on the
Web.
