About to be RETRENCHED?

Are you about to be retrenched? Is it confirmed? YES, It is confirmed Is the situation really that bad or is your company taking advantage of the current situation to exploit all of you? YOU MUST be very sure of the situation before you take the next action. Remember, given a choice, most employers would not like to retrench any hardworking employees, especially those that have been working faithfully for them for so many years. If your employer has always been good to its workers and you are sure that they are indeed forced to retrench all of you, then don't make things difficult for them. On the other hand, as a sign of goodwill, be willing to give-and-take wherever necessary ... who knows, someday when the situation gets better, you might be able to work together again ... afterall, everyone is going through this because of the economic situation that nobody can control ... all of you are victims of circumstances .... be happy together as a family, and when it is time to part and go your own ways, at least make it less painful .... On the other hand, there are always black-sheeps around who make use of the current situation to exploit their workers. If your employer has always taken advantage and treated all of you badly, beware!!! If for any reason, you feel that you are being cheated one way or another, make sure your trade union knows about and everything should be in black and white. Most important of all, try to protect yourself while at the same time remain amicable. Only as a last resort should you go for extreme measures like taking legal actions ... AND remember, all of you must stand united at all times when facing your irresponsible employer ... Remember, under all circumstances, try to work out a WIN/WIN solution, so that your interests and benefits are protected while at the same, does not make things too difficult for your employer ... remember they are going through a much tougher time than you and maybe even face the painful possibility of closing down their business. At the same time beware of any unethical practices of some employers out to exploit you. But, don't worry, the current labour law of most countries is adequate to cope with such situations and more than enough to protect eveybody's interests.
